Pre-Tertiary teacher unions in Ghana declared an indefinite strike action with immediate effect On July 4, 2022, following the failure of government to pay them the 20% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) they requested for.
Whilst the teachers were on strike, The Teacher Unions however met the Government to negotiate on the Cost Of Living Allowance which was later agreed by the parties involved for 15% COLA instead of 20%.
The COLA which was agreed to be paid to All Public Sector Workers effective July 1, 2022 on paper, happened not to be paid.
This however left teachers and other public sector workers talking as to why such MoU should be neglected.
Thomas T. Musah, the General Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT, has however cleared the air to give hope to his members of the Association that, COLA will be paid effective August 2022.
UNION ALERT! Comrades, you are hereby informed that COLA will be paid effective August 2022. ~ Thomas T. Musah General Secretary-GNAT
