It is illegal to Collect Examination Fees from pupils/parents - GES

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed Regional, Municipal and District Directors of Education to discontinue the practice of  collecting monies from parents/pupils  in organizing an end-of-term examination for learners.

According to the press dated Monday, August 1, 2022 by the Director General Of Education, the attention of the management has been drawn to an unfortunate practice if some metro/municipal/district directors of education collecting monies from pupils in the name of organizing termly examination.

Prof. Akwasi Opoku Amankwah in the release reiterated that, it is illegal to collect monies from pupils, parent and or guardians since it goes against the suggested guidelines in the learning assessment framework of the Standard-Based Curriculum (SBC).

“ suggested guidelines in the learning assessment framework of the Standard-Based Curriculum (SBC) states that School Based Assessment, comprising test undertaken internally at the school level should form the basis for the Internal Assessment Score (IAS). This includes home works, class tests, group work and project work” the release stated.
