Headteachers should be in school amidst Strike - Education Minister

The Education Minister, Hon. Osei Yaw Adutwum has in an interview directed all headteachers of Pre Tertiary schools to go back to classrooms and continue with their managerial duties.

According to the minister, heads of basic schools and pre tertiarry schools at large are not to partake in the indefinite industrial actions declared by the three teacher unions namely, NAGRAT, GNAT and CCT-GH on Friday November 4, 2022 over the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah, a banker, as the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Non payment of deprived school allowance, issues on distribution of teachers’ laptops, issues on promotion and other issues related to their conditions of services.

Ghana Education Service in a letter referenced GES/PR/RELEASE/83 which hand in hand the Head, Public Relations Officer, Cassandra Twum Ampofo has also affirmed the Minister’s intake on headteachers. 

Management of GES has also directed heads of public kindergarten and primary schools as well as Junior and senior high schools to mobilize their management teams to ensure the safety and well being of all students/pupils in schools.

It further advised parents to remain calm and rest assured as management is closely monitoring the situation and advise on the way forward accordingly.

Regional and the District Directors have further been instructed to ensure that heads keep schools opened and closely supervise all children who report to school pending further directives from management of GES.
