The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has partnered with the Ghana Taekwondo Federation to introduce Taekwondo in all private schools to develop the mental alertness and self-defence skills of students.
“The Council has also collaborated with the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, to introduce Taekwondo in Private Schools, so that our learners can be trained to develop mental alertness and self-defence skills,” the Council said in a post.
The Private Schools Council in the social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com said that Taekwondo education when introduced in private schools will benefit students, hence schools are encouraged to embrace this initiative.
Commenting on the 2023 academic calendar for private schools, GNACOPS said efforts have been made to return to starting the academic year in September, as it was before the global Coronavirus lockdown and its effects.
“As a result, we will do 2 Semesters from January to September, for the 2023 academic year, and begin the 2024 academic year in October 2023, to complete the transition process,” the National Council of Private Schools said.
On the part of the National Standardised Test (NST), the Private Schools Council said mop-up arrangements have been made for private schools that could not participate in the conduct of the 2022 edition of the national examination.
According to the Minister in charge of Education, a total of 1.5 million students from government and private basic schools across the country participated in the 2022 National Standardised Test administered in December 2022.
Speaking to journalists after monitoring the Test at some selected schools he said 792,000 were primary four pupils while the remaining 750,000 were also from primary two in various public and private schools across the country.
The Education Minister indicated that basic 2 and 4 pupils from a total of 18,000 public and private schools participated in last year’s National Standardised Test which started on December 5 and ended on December 16, 2022.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said the central government would do everything possible to ensure that the right interventions are put in place as a means of helping pupils with peculiar challenges identified after the national examination.
The Education Minister in an interview said the National Standardised Test (NST) results portal to check the performance of government primary school students who sat for the national examination will be online in due course.
“A website or portal to host the National Standardised examination results for parents of the students who participated in the test is currently under development. When completed parents can print their ward’s results online,” he stated.
