The Learning activity, a nine-year (2014-2023) activity of the USAID, supported the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service and other affiliated institutions to improve the reading performance for early grade pupils.
Learning, implemented by FHI 360, has worked to achieve this aim through four programs: the Early Grade Reading Program (EGRP), the Transition to English (T2E) Program, the National Reading Radio Program (NRRP), and the T2E Plus program.
In addition, the program has distributed over 14 million locally developed and context-relevant TLMs, including Braille, to over 16,000 primary schools.
To mark the significant completion of the 9-year program, the USAID Mission Director, Ms. Kimberly Rosen handed over the Learning Activity to the Ministry of Education, which was handed to the GES.
In attendance at the close-out ceremony was the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; Director-General of GES, Dr Eric Nkansah; Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access, Dr Tandoh; Regional and District Directors of GES and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
