On May 1, 2023, two young students, David Nyame and Tiwaah Regina, lost their lives in a tragic drowning incident in Bosompem, a river at Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region of Ghana. The students, aged 14 and 15, were in their second year of studies at Sankore Preparatory school.
According to reports, the students had allegedly gone to the river in search of clay for a practical session of teaching and learning. Unfortunately, they got into difficulty in the water and drowned. Tiwaah Regina was seen the same day the incident happened, while David Nyame was found the following day, May 2, 2023.
The bodies of the students were taken by the Sankore Police Administration for further examinations and investigations. The incident has caused shock and grief among the school community, the families of the deceased, and the wider community.
As we mourn the loss of David Nyame and Tiwaah Regina, we must take concrete steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
The bodies of the two students will be buried on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Sankore Cemetery. Our thoughts and condolences go out to their families and loved ones during this difficult time.
