Here is a preview of a suggested academic calendar for basic schools in the 2023/2024 academic year:
SUGGESTED 2023/2024 ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR BASIC SCHOOLS (38 WEEKS):
FIRST TERM (12 WEEKS)
- From 3rd October 2023 to 21st December 2023
SECOND TERM (14 WEEKS)
- From 9th January 2024 to 11th April 2024
THIRD TERM (12 WEEKS)
- From 7th May to 25th July 2024
Private Educational Institutions
Private educational institutions, while some have disclosed their academic schedules for the coming year, primarily align their calendars with the official GES calendar. Therefore, the release of GES's 2023 academic calendar is not only eagerly anticipated but also carries substantial weight.
Additionally, the official 2023 academic calendar encompasses critical dates for various educational levels:
For Senior High School (SHS):
SHS 3 - All SHS 3 students will have completed their WASSCE by September 2023.
SHS 2 - The academic year concludes from 14th August 2023 to 30th November 2023.
SHS 1 - The academic year concludes from 18th September 2023 to 30th November 2023.
Single Track SHS
The academic year concludes from 9th June 2023 to 15th September 2023.
For Kindergarten (KG), Primary, and Junior High School (JHS):
JHS 3
- The third term starts on 27th June 2023, leading up to the BECE in September 2023. BECE itself is scheduled for 7th August to 11th August 2023.
KG to JHS 2
- The third term runs from 27th June 2023 to 14th September 2023.
With the official GES Academic Calendar in effect, students are expected to resume school on 3rd October 2023, marking the commencement of the 2023/2024 Academic Year.
