In a much-anticipated announcement, Public Relations Manager of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mrs. Cassandra Twum Ampofo, has announced on Adom TV’s Kase3 on September 12, 2023 that, reopening date for basic schools (KG, Primary & Junior High Schools) is set for October 3, 2023. This announcement brings relief and excitement to students, parents, and educators alike, as it marks a momentous step in the education sector's ongoing efforts to ensure both the safety and quality of education.
As many were in doubt as to whether the stated date is official or not, Management of the Ghana Education Service has released a circular date September 13, 2023 which has the sign of Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, The Deputy Director General (Q&A) for Director General
The Official letter reads;
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform you that the reopening date for Basic Schools (KG, Primary & Junior High Schools) across the country for First Term of 2023/2024 Academic Year is 3RD OCTOBER, 2023. This brings back the academic calendar back to pre-COVID-19 and we wish to also convey to all teaching and non-teaching staff the sincere appreciation of Management for their immense support during our efforts to ensure teaching and learning during the difficult period of our country.
By this letter, Regional Directors of Education are requested to communicate this date to Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education to inform all Heads of Basic Schools to bring to the attention of parents/guardians and students to take note and prepare accordingly for a smooth and effective academic work.”
