Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform Heads of all Second Cycle Institutions of the 2024/2025 academic calendar.
The academic year begins on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024 for all Ssecond Ccycle Institutions. Please note that the current first year students in Transitional Calendar schools will end their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, 28th October, 2024 and be promoted to Form two (2) and continue with the new academic year immediately.
Incoming first year students for Single Track and Transitional Schools will also begin school on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024. Additionally, all continuing students in Single Track Schools will re-open for the new academic year on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024.
This reopening date aims to ensure that the school calendar reverts to a September start in the coming years and students will be able to write their 2024/2025 WASSCE in May/June 2025.
By a copy of this letter, Regional Directors are directed to communicate to all Heads of Second Cycle Institutions to ensure full implementation.

For JHS 3
First Term:
• Begins on 10th September, 2024: Students and educators kick off the academic year with enthusiasm and end on December 20, 2024.
Second Term:
• Begins on 8th January, 2025: The new year marks the start of the second term, where students continue their educational journey break on April 17, 2025 for Second term Vacation
Third Term: The Final Push
• Begins on May 6, 2025: The final term commences, bringing students one step closer to their ultimate goal. VACATION FOR KG-JHS 2: JULY 24, 2025
• BECE IN JULY: A significant milestone, the BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination) takes place during this term
For KG-JHS 2:
First Term:
•Begins on 3rd October, 2023: Young learners dive into their educational journey with curiosity and excitement and end on December 21, 2023.
• Vacation period for first term (22nd December to January 9, 2023): A well-deserved break allows students to celebrate the Christmas holiday with their families.
